2 students get probation in Rider hazing death
Probation and community service may be the final punishment for three Rider University students accused of aggravated hazing after the drinking death of a freshman in March.
A judge accepted pretrial interventions for Adriano DiDonato and Domick Olsen, which means after three years probation and 100 hours of community service, the charges against them will disappear. The third student, Michael Torney, has not yet decided whether to accept a plea offer of probation.
The three students were charged after 19-year-old Gary DeVercelly died of alcohol poisoning at a fraternity party. As a result, the school completely banned parties at Greek houses.
Two Rider University administrators were also charged in the incident. Last month, the prosecutor dropped the hazing charges against them.
Meanwhile, a teenager who doesn?t attend the school was hospitalized Saturday after a fight with a Rider fraternity member on campus. That fraternity member was also cited for underage drinking.
