The good news about this weekend is that the coastal storm stays offshore. The bad news is that the bitter temperatures stick around.
Tonight will be the coldest night of the season. A cold weather advisory is in effect. Low temperatures will range from around 4 degrees to near 0 along the I-95 corridor. North of the Merritt, lows will fall to zero or below. The last time we had temperatures like these was 2024 and 2019. Temperature records are on the line for Saturday morning.
We just missed hitting a record today in Bridgeport. The temperature climbed to 20 degrees and the record was 18.
Wind chills will feel as low as 10 to 15 degrees below zero waking up Saturday. In the afternoon, it will feel more like the middle teens with the northwest breeze.
Early sunshine will give way to a cloudy sky later Saturday. The clouds will hold as the coastal storm pulls away from the Mid Atlantic coast and out to sea. There is a risk of some flurries but it looks like the snow will now stay offshore as well.
Winds will pick up Sunday and could gust up to 30-35 mph along the coast. Inland expect winds to be 20-25 mph.
Temperatures will struggle to reach freezing early next week. The first week of February stays cold with highs near 30 and then dropping into the 20s by next weekend.
