The Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center in Little Falls hosted a D-Day tribute event to recognize the iconic World War II battle.
Officials awarded the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal to veteran and Passaic resident Alger Stone during the event.
After the medal ceremony, a panel of naval historians discussed the significance of the D-Day invasion, as well as the role of Major League Baseball players on that historic day, including Seaman Second Class Lawrence Peter Berra.
June 6 marked 80 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy when Allied troops arrived on five stretches of the German-occupied French coastline.
