A man was fatally injured Wednesday when a steel beam fell on him as he was loading a truck.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, the incident took place at about 6 p.m. on the 100-block of Raymond Boulevard. Officers were called to the area after receiving reports that a worker was injured. When first responders arrived, they found the man unresponsive.

During the course of an investigation, police learned that the man had fallen off the truck while helping load steel beams onto it.

"He accidentally fell off the truck before one of the beams fell on him, fatally injuring him," Miranda said in a press release.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
