Word on the Street: Dress code in public schools
One New York City school's strict dress code landed 200 students in detention in the last two weeks.
The new "Dress for Success" policy at Tottenville High School in Staten Island covers everything from tank tops and short-shorts to hoodies and sunglasses.
News 12 hit the streets to ask residents whether all public schools should have a dress code.
Most residents said they thought having a dress code was a good idea, and students should dress appropriately.
A city Department of Education spokesperson says the dress code was a "local decision" made "at the discretion of the principal," and that parents signed off on the policy before the start of the new year.
