Woman killed in Toms River crash; other driver ‘appeared to be impaired,’ police say

A woman was killed in a two‑vehicle crash late Saturday in Toms River, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. near Lakewood Road and Whitty Road, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators said a southbound Volkswagen Jetta struck a guardrail on the passenger side, causing the driver to lose control and cross into oncoming traffic, where it collided head‑on with a northbound Honda Accord.
The Honda driver was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River and pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released.
The driver of the Volkswagen was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with nonfatal injuries. Officers said the driver appeared impaired, and a blood sample was taken at the hospital as part of the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
