A 55-year-old woman was found shot to death in a Lakewood apartment Tuesday morning.

Athelma Vasquez was shot around 6 a.m. at the Cottage Manor Apartments in Lakewood. She died later at the hospital.

According to the prosecutor's office, two other people were home at the time of the shooting. It is unclear whether Vasquez was the intended target.Authorities say Vasquez's murder may be connected to a previous homicide. Vasquez's daughter is the girlfriend of a witness expected to testify in the barbershop murder trial.

Police spent the day dusting for prints and searching for evidence. Detectives say they're working with witnesses to put together a sketch of the gunman.
