The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a 26-year-old woman was struck and killed by a bus in a busy Montclair intersection Saturday night.
The victim, who has been identified as Maya Moar, from Israel, was in the United States working as an au pair for a family in Montclair.
Moar was on a Decamp bus at the intersection of Grove Street and Mt. Hebron Road just before the incident occurred.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, she got off the bus around 6 p.m. and was struck by the bus, which continued onward without stopping.
Moar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors say their investigation is active and ongoing, but no charges have been filed at this time. The Decamp bus company says it's also investigating.
A company spokeswoman said Decamp bus is "deeply saddened" by the death of Maya Moar and the company will be fully cooperating with authorities.
Anyone with information on this crash or anyone who may have witnessed it should call the Essex County Prosecutor's Office tip line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC.
