(06/16/06) NEWARK ? A 23-year-old woman was charged with filing a false police report Friday in New Jersey after her supposedly false information sparked an Amber alert.
Police say Tasha Gibson stated a gunman forced her from her car in East Orange and drove off with her 15-month-old girl. Authorities then issued an Amber alert in their search for the young child. However, the alert was quickly canceled after police say they learned there was no carjacking.
Investigators say the child?s father left Gibson on the side of the road after the two had a fight. The father, 20-year-old Vernon Chinn, was charged with assault as a result of the incident. The child was later checked at a hospital and is safe.
