? Authorities have charged four students with conspiracy to commit terrorism for their alleged plot to shoot classmates and teachers at Winslow Township High School.
Police arrested the four boys, whose names have not been released because they are minors, Wednesday after students told school administrators about the plan. One teen attends another school. The boys are the first people to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder and terrorism under New Jersey?s new terrorism law. Police say they had a hit list of 25 people, including teachers, and planned to open fire during lunch. Authorities say one of the suspects tried to purchase a gun, but police did not recover any weapons. One suspect?s father maintains it is a misunderstanding.
Police officers patrolled the school grounds Friday, which was reportedly the day the shooting would take place. Many Winslow Township High School students did not attend class. Parents say they are shocked and relieved the suspects are behind bars.
If convicted, the boys would face a minimum of 30 years in prison without parole.
