Carlstadt has almost 30 inches of snow on the ground and it is still coming down. The fierce winds and the heavy, wet nature of the snow have taken power out. Over 127,000 New Jersey residents are without power. This looks like it is the second biggest two-day snow event since we've been keeping records. Second behind the Blizzard of 1996!
FORECAST:
The blizzard is slowly moving away from the region. While winds continue to gust and while the snow is still falling, the intensity of both meteorological parameters is beginning to ease. The forecast tonight is going to be cloudy and cold. Icy patches will be common as we continue to dig out from the biggest snowstorm in five years. As the temperatures drop tonight, the moisture content in the snowpack will begin to freeze over. This will complicate the cleanup and make snow removal much heavier and harder to accomplish.
Tuesday is quieter but cold and breezy. The big dig continues. It is going to be a very difficult task for all 564 municipalities in the state to deal with.
After the biggest storm in five years slammed the state with snow, is it too early to be talking about more snow in the forecast? Asking for a friend. But here we are - talking about more snow this week. Not one but two opportunities. Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, a quick clipper drops through with an additional dusting to an inch or two.
Thursday into Friday could be a little more complicated. It could be a system that moves in from the Midwest and drops to our south. With enough cold air and moisture, we might see more accumulations over 4 inches. It is still a meteorological lifetime down the road. We have time to see how this evolves and may or may not impact the region
