A restraining order didn?t help a Williamsbridge mother who police say was stabbed to death Thursday by her estranged husband.
Police say Karen Allende was carrying a copy of the restraining order while on her way to work in Battery Park when Richard Allende allegedly ambushed her from behind. Authorities say he repeatedly stabbed his wife, who later died. Allende is charged with second-degree murder.
The victim leaves behind five children. Neighbors say they hope the children?s grandmother, who lives in Jamaica, will be able to care for them. Neighbors also say police were always at the victim?s home because of her husband. Critics question the effectiveness of restraining orders.
