A wildfire inside the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in Burlington County is impacting hundreds of acres of land.

Crews are expected to be out through the weekend fighting this fire. It started Friday afternoon near City Line Road in Browns Mills.

Officials say that at least 350 acres of land are impacted. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says that crews are making progress, and that the fire was about 20% contained

Officials said that crews were met with several spot fires that had to be dealt with. They say that the fire was quickly moving and that the wind made it hard to control.

“We ask that the public help us out by remaining safe, adhere to the regulations and the restriction we put on open burning. Please be self-conscious and conscious not to ignite any fires,” said Shawn Judy, Division B Forest Fire B Warden.

Judy says that 99% of wildfires are started by people and that only 1% are due to lightning.

At least two buildings were in danger from the fire. Local roads in the state forest are closed.

Officials say that this is the 10th major wildfire in New Jersey this year. They say they are hopeful this fire will be fully contained by the end of the weekend.
