And for more on Biden's decision and the fallout we're joined by news, 12 investigative reporter Walt Kane morning, Walt, thanks for being here with us. Morning big picture. What's next for us here? Well, at this point, Nick sources in DC, who I've talked to say, it looks very likely that Kamala Harris is going to be the Democratic nominee. There are a couple of different ways this could happen. Obviously, there is a possibility of an open convention, but sources tell me it is more likely that delegates will hold a virtual vote prior to the convention. Democrats had planned to nominate President Biden that way before he dropped out of the race under Democratic National Committee rules. The earliest that vote could happen would be August 1st and they say the key week to watch is that first week in August. So what's next here in New Jersey? Well, here in New Jersey, the uh the Democratic National Committee delegates are expected to meet today and they are expected at that point to endorse Harris again, the official nomination won't happen until either that roll call vote or at the convention itself. Let's talk about Governor Murphy here, Walt, I mean, go back a month. His name was floated as potentially a presidential candidate. If Biden drops out, it doesn't look like that's gonna happen here. What about the prospects of him? Him being vice president, his name certainly does appear to have been in the mix. We're hearing in several published reports that uh Murphy is either under consideration or has put his name out there in conversation with Democratic officials. Uh One of the interesting things is how many of the prominent names that are mentioned have New Jersey Ties one way or another. Senator Mark. Uh Kelly from Arizona actually grew up here in New Jersey, Pennsylvania. Governor Josh Shapiro began his career as an aide to New Jersey. Senator Bob Toselli. So there is a reasonable probability that there's going to be a New Jersey connection to whoever the next uh VP candidate is. Is there a reasonable timeline now for what we can expect in terms of that, Harris has talked about wanting to earn Democrats support. Uh So that August 1st or later time frame would give her about a week and a half to be out on the campaign trail before a decision gets made. Obviously, there is a possibility that this just goes to an open convention and gets decided at the Democratic National convention. But again, sources telling me that seems less likely you have one candidate in Kamala, Harris who has a campaign staff and donors lined up anybody else who wants to try to take her on would need both of those things in a very short amount of time. For more on Biden's decision and the fallout we're joined by news 12 investigative reporter Walt King. Good morning, Walt. Thanks for being with us here. Good morning. What is next in the story? Well, at this point, it really looks more and more likely that we're going to see Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president. And there are a couple of reasons for that. Harris has three big advantages that no other candidate could have. First, there's a campaign staff, the Biden for president campaign has largely transitioned over and is now working for Harris. Any other candidate who would need to put together a campaign staff. Second, Harris has key financial support. Two democratic donors, Reid Hoffman and George Soros came out yesterday in support of her. She also has a powerful list of endorsements from President Biden himself to Bill and Hillary Clinton. Uh There is a possibility of an open convention of course, but any other candidate who wanted to try to take Kamala Harris on has some serious obstacles. So what's next for New Jersey delegates since the DN CS next month? We're hearing that the Democratic National Committee delegates are expected to meet later today. And at that point, they're likely to endorse Harris again. This is, endorsements are not binding. The only vote that really matters is that vote of at either the invention or at a virtual roll call. And one source tells me he would expect to see that virtual roll call. The original plan was to have President Biden officially nominated first week in August a couple of weeks ahead of the Republican National Convention that could still happen. But there are some Democrats saying just throw it to the uh the convention and decide there, Governor Murphy putting out a statement in support of vice President Harris. What potentially is his role in all this? Governor Murphy is one of several names being floated as a possible Democratic vice presidential nominee. Uh A couple of others with New Jersey ties, Mark Kelly, the senator from Arizona who grew up here, Josh Shapiro, the Governor of Pennsylvania began his career as an aide to New Jersey, Senator Robert Toricelli. So we have a couple of New Jersey tied candidates out there. Uh But I think the first step is gonna be who becomes the next presidential nominee before they pick a vice presidential candidate.
