Nestor says the COLA was approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance, the Annual Town Budget Meeting and then by a town vote. She added that this was part of the normal budgeting process that has taken place for many years.

Weston First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor said Tuesday that she returned $10,000 to the town after she learned that the town may have issued her a Cost of Living Adjustment in error.

In a statement, Nestor said during her first term in office, the interim Town Administrator informed her she was eligible for an annual Cost of Living Adjustment, similar to other full-time town employees.

Nestor says the COLA was approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance, the Annual Town Budget Meeting and then by a town vote. She added that this was part of the normal budgeting process that has taken place for many years.

Nestor also says that once she realized the COLA might have been issued by mistake, she voluntarily returned the money.

"Part of my job as Town CEO is to fix errors and improve processes – so I did the first, and we are working on the latter, so that policies are clear and misinterpretations like this one are not repeated. I believe in transparency. I believe in process. I believe in doing the right thing. As always, my job is to put the residents and taxpayers of Weston first. This is what I did in this case, and this is what I am committed to continuing to do as your First Selectwoman," she wrote.
