UPDATE: 3:24 p.m. (AP) - Hurricane Ian makes landfall in southwestern Florida near Cayo Costa as massive Category 4 storm.
Some people in Southwest Florida are choosing to stay home and ride out Hurricane Ian. News 12’s Lauren Due spoke with Courtney Hindman, a resident who lives a mile away from a beach in Venice, Florida.
Venice is just 30 miles north of Cape Coral on Florida's southwest coast.
Hindman, her husband, two dogs, and 9-month-old daughter are in the hurricane’s direct path.
“We’re already without power right now. We’ve been without power for like four, five hours now,” she said.
Hindman was confident that she and her family were equipped to handle the storm.
“We’re prepared. We have two generators. We’ve got lights. We have food. We have the house all boarded up. We’ve got fans,” she said.
