Police officers who patrol Wayne schools during the school year have found a way to keep their eye on students during the summer months.
Detectives Jack McNiff and William Jurewicz patrol different shopping centers in town on their bikes. They say when school is out, the centers tend to be plagued with nuisance complaints, teens congregating in front of stores and other problems.
Both detectives say since they work in the schools, most of the teens know them and respect them. Many students say they actually like seeing the officers in and out of school. They say they feel safer knowing the officers are out and around.
Store owners also like having the officers patrol the shopping centers.
