A water main break in Jersey City is still under repair.
Veolia Water says a 12-inch water main broke around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. The overnight break along Grove Street between 18th Street and Observer Highway caused traffic delays for morning commuters.
It's created an especially tough day for those who live next door at the high-rise complex located at 700 Grove St. About 120 residents woke up to no water. Several residents told News 12 it was tough not being able to take a shower.
“Nothing was working. I couldn’t wash my hands, I couldn’t wash my face. I had to use my limited supply of water in the kitchen to do all of that, so it’s been kind of inconvenient,” says resident Shannon Julian.
“I haven’t showered or brushed my teeth properly of course, so not great,” says resident Brianna Horiuchi.
Horiuchi says her two dogs will be living on bottled water instead of the tap while the service remains out.
“Got to rely on the bottled water that I have at the house and then otherwise make a trip to the grocery store,” she says.
Other families decided they’d be getting out for the day to avoid the inconvenience until the work was done.
