A water main break in West New York Friday forced more than 60 people from their homes.
A United Water spokesman says it appears the break at Bergenline Avenue and 51st Street occurred around 5 a.m. The water poured onto the street, as well as down a hill. It created icy conditions on the street because of the freezing temperatures outside. A boil water advisory is in effect for residents in West New York, Union City, North Bergen, Guttenberg and Weehawken.
Emergency crews used rafts to help residents evacuate. A United Water official says the freezing temperatures may have caused the main to burst. Meanwhile, officials say they don't know how long it will take to fix the break. Those evacuated residents were helped by the Red Cross.
