Three Leonia police officers rescued a motorist who became stranded in flooding during Tuesday’s heavy rain.

The police department released a video of the rescue to highlight the dangers of driving through flooded roadways.

The video shows Sgt. Ray Forsdahl, Detective Erik Goodell and Officer John Longo helping a woman out of her car while water rushes by. The video appears to show the group having a hard time walking through the water. One of the officers warns the motorist that the water is “very swift.”

Leonia police say this was one of several calls for people trapped in the flooding on Tuesday.

“Please remember to stay off the roads when flash flooding is forecasted. Never drive through flood waters, 12 inches of water can sweep a car off the road,” police wrote in a statement attached to the video.

Police say there were no serious injuries during Tuesday’s storms.
