A vote to expel George Santos from the House of Representatives has passed.

The expulsion required a two-thirds vote. Friday's vote to expel him was 311-114.

"This is a sad day for this institution and a sad day for the American people. A new precedent had to be set because someone lied and frauded their way to the House of Representatives. It should have never happened," Rep. Anthony D'Esposito.

The vote follows a scathing House Ethics Committee report that alleges Santos illegally used campaign funds to pay for personal expenses.

Santos spoke with News 12's Rich Barrabi ahead of the vote. Watch below:

Santos is also facing a 23-count federal indictment.

With Santos expelled, a new representative will be chosen by special election within the next 90 days. Santos’ replacement would serve the rest of his term.

This was the third attempt to oust Santos.
