This week, Memorial School in Union Beach switched to remote learning before winter break starts.
A letter from the school superintendent announcing the switch on Dec. 16 did not mention COVID-19, but a letter dated Dec. 15 said many employees were in isolation or quarantine, making it difficult to staff the building.
"Although most of these instances of exposure have occurred outside of school, they do have a direct impact on the operation of Memorial School," Schools Superintendent Amanda Lewert said in the letter.
Students are expected back in the classroom on Jan. 3.
