A Millville man died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash Saturday in Vineland, police said.

Officers responded around 6 a.m. to the area of East Sherman Avenue and South Lincoln Avenue for a reported crash involving a pedestrian.

Investigators said a blue 2013 Ford Mustang driven by Karolina Ortiz-Angel, 21, of Bridgeton, was traveling east on East Sherman Avenue when she saw a pedestrian — later identified as Frederic Acevedo, 42, of Millville — in her lane. Police said Ortiz-Angel swerved and believed her vehicle had not struck the pedestrian.

Ortiz-Angel remained at the scene briefly but left after she did not see the pedestrian in the roadway, authorities said. The vehicle was later located and stopped by Vineland police. Investigators said the vehicle had damage consistent with evidence found at the crash scene.

Acevedo was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he died on Sunday, according to police.

Ortiz-Angel was not injured. Police issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a collision causing death and failing to report a collision.

The investigation is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed, police said.
