A veterans remembrance ceremony was held at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel Monday as part of New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day.
Twenty-five veterans from the Garden State were given medals. Seven veterans who served in other conflicts, including World War II, were honored with the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal.
The New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal dates back to 1858 for those who distinguished themselves in the New Jersey militia.
Then-Gov. Tom Kean re-authorized the medal in 1988.
