If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s probably coming to a Facebook feed near you.
News 12 New Jersey first reported about a group of trash collectors in Keansburg seen on a home’s surveillance video singing and dancing to “Cupid Shuffle.” The video has garnered hundreds of thousands of views since it was first reported.
The workers say that there was a reason for their jovial behavior.
“What happened with the dancing thing is, I was kind of going through something,” says sanitation worker William Watson. “And I’m looking around, everybody’s moping and they’re sad…I started dancing. Then he started dancing, then he started dancing. We didn’t even know we were being recorded.”
Watson has worked for Roselle Disposal for three years. It was co-worker Rodrick Samuels’ idea about a month ago to buy a speaker big enough for a dance party on their truck.

“$120 for it. It’s worth it,” Samuels says. “Music is the motivation for work. It gets you through your day. Especially rain. Cold weather...Anything and all. I told them we gotta get a nice speaker. Let's motivate ourselves some more.”
Driving the truck was Chad Howard. He was not dancing on the day that News 12 New Jersey caught up with the men. But he can be seen dancing in the viral video.
The people on their route know the sanitation workers and applaud their positive attitude.
“They are the best garbage men ever. Ever. Hands down. The best. And they boost up your spirits all day. Every day,” says one neighbor.
The owner of Roselle Sanitation says all three men worked straight through the COVID lockdown, handling a 30% increase in the amount of household trash people are disposing of.
