A woman who was killed earlier this month in a hit-and-run crash in Brick Township has been identified.

Ocean County prosecutors say 56-year-old Julia Sutton, of Weehawken, was struck and killed on Jan. 13 while walking on the shoulder of the roadway near Route 35 South and Bay Avenue.

Prosecutors say an investigation revealed Mark Carey Jr., of South Amboy, was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer that hit Sutton. He was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of the accident resulting in death.

Carey is being held at Ocean County Jail pending a detention heading.
