A longtime Broadway stage manager died after being hit by a NJ Transit train.
Thomas Gates, 51, was struck Wednesday morning by a New York-bound train. South Orange Police Department responded to the scene around 9 a.m. until the New Jersey Transit Police Department arrived.
Gates, who lived in South Orange, was a part of the Broadway musical “Illinoise.”
The show was canceled Wednesday night but resumed production Thursday. The Instagram account for the play shared that they are dedicating the remaining run of the Tony-nominated musical to Gates.
“Thom was the center of Illinoise on Broadway, a beloved friend and collaborator,” the Instagram post said.
