Police are investigating an act of vandalism at Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton’s home in Englewood.
The sheriff says that someone spray-painted “free them all” on his garage door. Red paint was splattered across it.
“It’s very disturbing when you think of the viewpoints of others – especially in this climate and serving in this capacity – would make it to your residence and put your family in jeopardy,” Cureton says.
Cureton says that he believes that the graffiti may be related to an incident at the county jail. Several ICE detainees held a hunger strike to protest what they are calling “inhumane” living conditions.
A protest was held outside the facility on Monday as well.
Anyone with information about the vandalism incident is encouraged to contact the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Tip Line at (201) 226-5532.
