Leaders of the Urban League of Westchester County unveiled a new investment they believe is going to help close the digital divide affecting the community's youngest and oldest residents.

The Urban League and AT&T opened a new lab in White Plains where they created a space for the community to use for digital learning.

The space provides people, especially students, the computers, the tablets and high-speed connections that not everyone has at home.

The Urban League points out data from a nonprofit that indicates 17,000 Westchester County students don't have reliable internet or updated devices. The most come from Yonkers and Mount Vernon.

Local middle schoolers were welcomed into the center on Tuesday to check out the technology for the first time.

The lab is part of AT&T's wider plan to spend $2 billion nationwide to address the digital divide, especially in marginalized communities.
