A major water main break impacting the city of Newark caused some hospitals in the city to cancel certain procedures.
A 42-inch water main break in Belleville left both University Hospital and Newark Beth Israel Hospital without water on Tuesday.
“I tried to use the restroom. There is no water at all. The patients are still waiting for water,” said Evelyn Pirden, who was at University Hospital.
Obu Ogubiw says his appointment at Newark Beth Israel was canceled.
“I was rescheduled to come on Monday. It was supposed to be today,” Ogubiw says.
Spokespersons for both hospitals say that all elective surgeries and clinical appointments were rescheduled as crews work to repair the water main.
Newark city officials have been providing city residents with bottled water. A boil water advisory is in effect for portions of Newark and Belleville.
