All
Newark Liberty International Airport employees will be able to schedule a
COVID-19 vaccine appointment at the new United Airlines Health Clinic within
the airport itself at Terminal C.
Daisy
Ramos, a United Airlines supervisor of warehouse distribution, was the first
employee this morning to get vaccinated.
"I
feel safe,” says Ramos. “The guys next to me are going to feel safer because
now we're all going to get vaccinated."
It’s been
a monthslong process to get the clinic up and running with special
renovations that also needed to be done to fit the ultra-cold freezers that are
now on site at the airport.
"This
is the No. 1 question I get from all of my employees; how quickly could
we get it?” says Mike Erbeck, vice president of the airport for United
Airlines. “When could we get it? And so, to finally have it here is just
amazing."
Only United
Airlines employees at the airport were using the clinic Tuesday, but all
airport employees with an appointment will be able to get their shots starting Wednesday.
As many as 168 Pfizer doses are slated to be distributed from the clinic
with their second doses set for May 18.
