Severe weekend storms created a nightmare for many air travelers. And while conditions have greatly improved on Monday, some travelers are still having problems returning home.
At one point over the weekend, there were 1,600 flights cancelled across the country. The worst of those problems were centered around the tri-state on Sunday. The backlog of cancellations and delays have eased up, but issues continued for those traveling into Newark.
News 12 New Jersey interviewed some of the travelers on their way home from Memphis who were lucky enough to snag a seat on a morning flight to Newark.
“They delayed the flight for two hours, put us on the plane and then said, ‘No such luck, cancelled.’ There was nothing the next day. I begged and cried and got on a Monday flight. First, they told me nothing on Monday either,” said Tom Dresser, of Jackson.
Tasha Miller, of Jersey City, says some travelers were offered $2,000 to give up their seats returning home.
“They were offering $2,000 per travel miles towards your next few flights,” Miller said.
