Two pictures emerged Tuesday of the man the FBI believes is the ?Mad Hatter? ? a serial bank robber and a devout churchgoer.
On Monday, FBI officials announced they arrested James Madison, the man they believe is behind a series of robberies throughout New Jersey. Madison is accused of robbing a bank in Union Sunday. However, authorities believe Madison is the ?Mad Hatter,? who is responsible for at least 18 heists since September 2006.
Parishioners at Christian Love Baptist Church in Irvington find it hard to believe Madison is responsible for all of those robberies. They say Madison attends service regularly on Sundays.
Pastor Ron Christian says he is working to meet with Madison behind bars.
So far, Madison has only been charged with Sunday?s bank robbery in Union.
Police say Madison is no stranger to crime. He was paroled two years ago after serving about 20 years for manslaughter.
