An afternoon at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus ended with two police officers injured and two men behind bars.
Authorities say three police officers responded to a reported car theft outside of Nordstrom. According to the police chief, one officer attempted to stop the suspect from driving away and the driver took off dragging the officer with him. Police say when a second officer intervened he stepped in front of the car and was hit.
Both officers were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police arrested 22-year-old Shakeel Ali, 18-year-old Javier Acevedo and a 14-year-old. The 14-year-old was released to his parents. Both Ali and Acevedo remain behind bars and are charged with aggravated assault on police officers, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and possession of burglar tools.
