A garbage truck fire forced the evacuation of a shopping center in Mendham early Wednesday.
A Blue Diamond Disposal truck was in the back of the King's Shopping Center on Route 24 when something caused it to burst into flames around 6:30 a.m. The driver of the truck was able to get out and flagged down help.
Officers evacuated several employees from the Wicker Basket and the Country Coffee Shop as the fuel from the truck caused the building to catch fire. The Country Coffee Shop, Village Pizzeria, Chocolate Shoppe and Aoyama Japanese Restaurant all took damage due to the fire and smoke.
Parts of East Main Street were closed for about three hours while firefighters battled the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire.
