As tropical depression Ernesto roars towards New Jersey officials raised the state?s alert status Friday to the second of five levels.People strolling along the Jersey Shore looked more like they were ushering in winter than dressing for the last days of summer. Forecasters say that?s because wind and rain brought on by Ernesto are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph this weekend, dashing hopes for a fun-filled Labor Day.Belmar resident Rick Burke says he?s preparing for the storm?s possible landfall by stocking up on supplies. Down south, Ernesto pounded North Carolina and Virginia with heavy rain. The deluge flooded some roads in Virginia.
