(04/03/06) TRENTON ? Residents in Trenton are demanding stronger police action after a rash of recent crimes in the city.

Within the past week, the streets of Trenton have been subjected to more than half a dozen violent incidents. In one attack, an 8-year-old girl was non-fatally struck by a bullet intended for a gang member. Residents and members of the Guardian Angels group now want New Jersey state troopers brought in to curb violence in the city.

However, Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer disagrees with the residents? suggestion. Palmer believes the blame lies not with law enforcement, but with the court system. The mayor says the criminal justice system must be overhauled to stop chronic gun criminals from roaming the streets.
