(08/10/06) TRENTON ? Residents of a Trenton public housing complex say their homes are falling apart around them, creating a severe health threat in the process.
According to Donnelly Homes residents, a backlog of necessary repairs was made worse when the Trenton Housing Authority laid off several maintenance workers. One resident says she must run her tap and shower for 30 to 40 minutes in order to get clean water. Another claims the entire back of her refrigerator is rotting away.
One of the remaining maintenance workers says the staff is so overwhelmed, it would take about 9 months to complete the list of repairs. Many Donnelly Homes residents blame the director of the Trenton Housing Authority, Dallas Parks. They want the state to investigate budget items for mismanagement. Residents plan to protest conditions throughout the month.
