Police say a 26-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Trenton.
According to authorities, Trenton Emergency Medical Services found a woman identified as Shydasia Merrick unconscious on the street in the 800 block of South Clinton Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police say at first, they thought Merrick suffered a cardiac arrest. But nurses at Capital Health Regional Medical Center saw traumatic injuries which appeared consistent with being struck by a vehicle, according to authorities.
Merrick, of Trenton, sustained multiple fractures and other serious injuries.
Police say they went back to where they found Merrick and there was debris from a crash. They say no vehicles in the immediate area had damage consistent with being involved in a hit-and-run.
When police arrived at the hospital, they say Merrick died after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
A search for the car is now underway. Police have not released any description of the vehicle.
