(04/19/06) TRENTON ? Residents in Trenton and Ewing are partnering with police to cut down on gun crimes in their cities.
Operation Ceasefire participants work with ?at-risk? individuals in an effort to help them avoid a life of crime. Organizers say Operation Ceasefire will focus on the Trenton-Ewing border, where criminals and guns move back and forth between the cities.
Residents in both cities hope the program makes their communities safer. An Operation Ceasefire program is already in place along the Newark-Irvington border. According to the Rutgers Police Institute, crime is down 30 percent in parts of that area since the start of the program.
