Tuesday was National Voter Registration Day – a day to make sure that those who wish to vote in upcoming elections are registered.
To mark the occasion, there was an effort to get Trenton high school students registered. It took place at Trenton Central High School. Pandemic restrictions complicated traditional outreach programs, so organizers went directly to the students.
“It's just a big challenge, so we've had to be really creative and strategic in the way that we think about how we reach young people. Coming to them is the easiest way. We can all work together to build a community and trust together so that students know that we that they have a safe place and those resources are available,” says Kate Schumacher with the League of Women Voters.
Registration for students was available during school lunch hours.
