Tenants of a Tremont apartment building are homeless after their homes were destroyed by a four-alarm fire.American Red Cross officials say more than 200 tenants were evacuated from the apartment building at 1840 Grand Concourse. Fire officials say the fifth and sixth floor of the building, where the fire began, suffered the most damage.The building manager says some residents are able to return to their apartments, and heat and hot water have been restored. He adds that gas cannot be turned on until Con Edison surveys the building. Red Cross officials say a total of 11 families are registered with them and will be housed in a hotel for the weekend.
