A tractor-trailer driver was killed in a crash early Friday on Interstate 287 in northern New Jersey, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 5 a.m. on I-287 southbound near the exit ramp to Route 206 north in Bedminster.
State police said a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by a 48-year-old Pennsylvania man ran off the interstate, crashed through a guardrail and went down an embankment. The driver, from Port Matilda, died at the scene.
At least one other vehicle, an SUV, was involved in the wreck. The SUV driver's condition was unclear.
The ramp from I-287 South to Route 206 North remained closed for about six hours during cleanup and investigation. I-287's main lanes stayed open.
A fuel spill from the tractor-trailer was contained by hazmat crews. Traffic backed up approaching the exit.
The victim's name was withheld pending family notification. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
