A Toms River teen was sentenced to 20 months at the Juvenile Justice Commission for a deadly hit-and-run crash last year.
Yesmin Sanchez-Centeno was 17 years old at the time of the Aug. 3, 2023, crash that killed 23-year-old Jeffrey Schlinger in Manchester Township. He is now 18 years old.
Officials say that Sanchez-Centeno ran away from the crash on foot and hid in a nearby wooded area. They say he was drunk at the time of the crash.
Authorities say Sanchez-Centeno initially presented a fake ID that identified him as older. It was later determined that he was only 17.
Sanchez-Centeno previously pleaded guilty to knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and strict liability vehicular homicide.
