The man accused of driving out onto the frozen Toms River when his truck fell through the ice will now face more charges.
Andrew Mayer now faces animal cruelty charges filed by the New Jersey SPCA. Mayer will be charged with one count of failure to provide proper care by recklessly endangering an animal's life and the animal dying as a result.
Mayer's dog Rolo was inside the truck when it fell through the ice. Mayer was able to get out of the truck, but the dog was left behind and died.
Mayer has previously been charged with criminal mischief and careless driving for the March 1 incident. He appeared before a judge in Ocean County court today to face those charges.
Crews pulled that truck out of the river earlier today.
