A Toms River man donated a half a million dollars to his church to help keep its doors open.

Jack Kendrick says he never intended to make headlines with his donation. Kendrick says he and his late wife had decided to donate the money to help the financially troubled Christ Episcopal Church. A reverend says Kendrick?s donation paid off the church?s mortgage.

Kendrick says he originally wanted his donation to be anonymous. However, he changed his mind and hopes others will follow suit. His identity and donation were revealed at Sunday?s service.
