Time is running out to make sure Christmas cards and Christmas presents arrive in time for the holiday.
Thursday was the last day to send cards and packages by regular mail to guarantee they arrive by Christmas Day. Thursday was also the last day to send gifts by priority mail.
But have no fear: Customers still have until Saturday to send items by priority mail express to guarantee an arrival by Christmas.
U.S. Postal Service spokesman George Flood says that the agency has been ready for the extra volume of mail.
“We have additional transportation contracts. We hire additional temporary employees for the holiday season, as well as give a heck of a lot of overtime to our regular employees,” he says.
Flood says that the Postal Service expects to handle more than 16 billion packages and pieces of mail between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
Those who cannot make it to the post office can also go to the Postal Service’s website and use the “Click and Ship” method.
