Police in three New Jersey counties hope tips will lead them to a serial bank robber with a flair for hats they're calling the "Mad Hatter."
Authorities say the graying man, who is 45 to 55 years old, has struck 11 banks in Essex, Morris and Union counties since September 2006. The suspect passes tellers a note and has threatened to use a gun, but investigators say he never has. The robber has stolen about $40,000 to date. Authorities believe he is a loner who may need quick money due to marital issues.
The three counties have joined forces to catch the suspect and are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
