Three-alarm blaze evacuates hundreds of Bronx residents on Gerard Avenue

Firefighters are calling a three-alarm fire that evacuated hundreds of Bronx residents Sunday morning suspicious. Fire officials say the fire began in a garbage shoot of a building on Gerard Avenue.

Firefighters are calling a three-alarm fire that evacuated hundreds of Bronx residents Sunday morning suspicious.
Fire officials say the fire began in a garbage shoot of a building on Gerard Avenue. Officials say the fire quickly spread to the roof and top floor. Eight apartments were damaged by the fire.
No residents were injured in the blaze. Six firefighters were treated for minor injuries. Firefighters say most of the residents were able to return to their apartments Sunday afternoon. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
