It's the start of Labor Day weekend and plenty of New Jersey residents are hitting the roadways for a final summer weekend getaway before the start of the school year.
News 12 spoke with travelers headed down the shore. Drivers from New York told News 12 that it seemed like traffic as usual on Friday afternoon. However, drivers from New Jersey say they're running into more delays than expected.
Travelers Lavinia Maia and Mia Pires were headed to Seaside Heights from Bergen County on Friday around 4 p.m.
"It's supposed to take like an hour and a half and it's taking about like three hours." Pires said, "It's like one moment there's traffic, then if you go around, it then you're good for a little bit and then there's traffic again,” Maia said.
According to AAA, these are the best times to hit the road this holiday weekend:
Saturday: After 12 p.m.
Sunday: Before 12 p.m.
Monday (Labor Day): Before 10 a.m.
Tuesday: After 1 p.m.
AAA says gas prices are lower this time of year than last year. So, families can expect to pay less for those final summer road trips.
